Pluto ~ astrology, mythlogy, art
⋆Pluto in astrology⋆
The meanings attributed to Pluto in astrology are very deep, and all of them are related to the "role" it has in mythology. They are linked, in particular, to its sitting on the throne of Hades, an underground world made of dark shadows. Aspect, this, which we will deal with later. It symbolizes the inner psyche, the most hidden power. But also the distance, the obsession, the revelation, the darkness. And also reflection, transformation, radical changes, regeneration, the cycles of death and rebirth. These are the images embodied by Pluto, which "manages its spaces" from the inside, hidden in the shadows, and for this reason the energy connected to this planet must be "handled" with great care, in order to better cope with its unpleasant inner effects. But, despite its dark symbolism, Pluto carries the beauty, albeit frightening, of the chaos that dwells in every human being and in everything around us. Everything Pluto touches will never be the same again.

⋆Pluto in mythology⋆
Pluto is one of the three gods of Greek mythology who shared the command of the Universe after the victory over the Titans. To Hades / Pluto was assigned the rulership of the Underworld, where he ruled over the dead. The Sky was attributed to Zeus / Jupiter, and the sea to Poseidon / Neptune. His name, the meaning of which was "the Invisible", was not usually pronounced, since it was believed to instigate his anger. For this reason various euphemisms were used, the most frequent of which was precisely Pluto (the "Rich"), a clear reference to the richness of the earth, including both the cultivated lands and the mines that it hides underground. For this reason Pluto is often depicted with a horn of abundance, an emblem of wealth. Beside him Persephone reigns, kidnapped by the god and forced to stay in his company for three months a year, as long as winter lasts.

We also can see Pluto represented in various art pieces, let's see some examples:
The Rape of Proserpina, by Gian Lorenzo Bernini (marble, 1622) |
Orpheus before Pluto and Persephone, by François Perrier (oil on canvas, 1645) |
Pluto, by Nicolaes Braeu (engraving, 1598) |
A very interesting article/blog post and thank you for putting together to give us another perspective about Pluto. If I may, I would like to add a couple of things about Pluto, with respect to our recent history - say the last 50 years. My understanding about Pluto is that, it destroys the house it is in, and turns it into a complete rubble, and then re-builds you from its ashes. Let's look at the years, where Pluto visited the signs:
ReplyDelete1971 - 1983 -----> Pluto was in Libra. What does Libra represent? Among so many other things, it represents "Agreements", meaning marriage. No coincidence that in the US, divorce rates went through the roof, during that time.
1983 - 1995 -----> Pluto was in Scorpio. Scorpio represents, among so many other things, sexuality. No coincidence that AIDS became one of the important news during that time. Not to mention, HIV infections spread rapidly.
1995 - 2008 -----> Pluto was in Sagittarius. Sagittarius represents, among so many other things, Religion. It took Pluto 6 years, after entered into Sagittarius, (September 11, 2001) to demolish the New York twin towers, in the name of the "Religion". If we remember all the wars were in the name of "Religion" during that era, from the both sides; the US and the other side as well. Not to mention the Yugoslavian civil war atrocities, again in the name of the "Religion", during that time.
2008 - 2024 ------> Pluto is in Capricorn. Capricorn represents, among so many other things, governments, Head of the states, Rulers etc. Again, we all witnessed the Presidents turning into dictators, as well as the most unpredictable people becoming the President (such as the US), during that time. All, because of Pluto making Capricorn degenerate, and showed us how deep the abuse was in the government, i.e. "Edward Snowden case", "WikiLeaks" etc.
This is just an excerpt of an interesting article that I read :

Thank you so much for sharing, this is so interesting! I'm planning to do a post about main history events and the transits that were involved at the time, because I've always been interested in that. Gonna read that article for sure :)
DeleteI am very happy to hear that my comment “struck a chord” with you. As soon as I read earlier that you have an interest in the World events with relation to Astrological events, you reminded me of this article; without knowing that you had already written about Pluto. Then, I saw your article; there couldn’t be better coincidence for me to write this comment :)
DeleteI am, personally, very interested in “What is going to happen, when Pluto starts visiting Aquarius?” That will start in January 2024. Aquarius represents collective movement, rebellion, rising against societal restrictions, since its ruler is Uranus (represents unpredictability). Are we going to see more “Greta Thunberg” in the World? Or, the freedom marchers in the oppressed regimes? I feel that very interesting times are ahead of us.
I completely agree with you, a lot of things I think will change (hopefully for the better). I'll try to write about it for sure, thanks for the inspiration!!
